Chevy Chase residents have a new fast-casual dining destination. City Burger, from chef Michael Harr of Bethesda's Food Wine & Co.and Cabin John's Fish Taco, opens with limited hours today before operating full swing tomorrow.
Like most area burger spots, diners can expect patties and dogs topped with signature sauces, rich shakes, and crispy fries.
Worth noting on the day that President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden stopped for lunch at Shake Shack: Harr has joined the ranks of those who've created a sandwich with the burger eater-in-chief in mind. The Pali Highway is a Hawaiian-themed burger with pineapple, ham, and chile mayo. Harr's veggie burger, meanwhile, is not for those who fear raising their cholesterol levels. Instead of using a patty made from vegetables or beans, the City Cheddar features a cheese patty topped with mushrooms, caramelized onions, lettuce and tomatoes.
Hot dog offerings include a classic beef frankfurter and two beef and pork dogs, one topped with relish, mushrooms, onions, and barbecue sauce, and another topped with cabbage chow chow and mustard sauce.
French fries also get fancified at City Burger, with the addition of rosemary, parmesan, and sea salt (called The Roof Top) or parmesan and chile mayo (called City Fries). A variety of handspun shakes, including a chocolate, banana, bacon, and peanut butter concoction called the Presley, round out the menu.
If you're hoping to snag a seat while chowing down, plan to arrive early. The small space only seats 15.
